BC Casino Expanding with New Slot Machines, Tables and Jobs

Great Canadian Gaming is looking to hire 100+ employees to cover the expansion of The View Royal Elements Casino with new slots games and restaurants.

Rendering of New Slots Games Facility, Elements Casino VictoriaThe View Royal Casino is about to look a whole lot different. The existing casino and entertainment facility in Surrey, British Columbia, just outside of Victoria, is undergoing a major expansion. The first phase will reach completion next month, and Great Canadian Gaming (GCG) is looking to hire 100+ new staff members to fill that space.

Reports indicate that construction is going smoothly. GCG projects that the project will be completed on time. Once the job is finished, the new Elements Casino Victoria at View Royal will have more than doubled in size, with an additional 42,000 square feet of gaming, dining and entertainment space.

“Things are progressing rapidly,” says Chris Lynn, Executive Director of casino operations for Vancouver Island. “We’re pretty excited about how things are moving along. Everything looks to be on time as it stands now.”

New Slots Games, Electronic Tables & Dining

The first phase of the expansion is due for completion next month. GCG is awaiting the grand opening of two new restaurants in December, along with a host of new slots machines and electronic gaming tables. One restaurant will feature 150 seats and a pub-style menu, while the other will be a fast-food eatery with Asian fare.

Lynn believes the staffing phase of the project is particularly important right now. He says they’re currently looking for employees to fill the 100+ staffing positions that are about to open up. Lynn estimates they will have about 130 positions open, with at least 100 needing assignment before Christmas, especially in the new restaurants.

GCG is already hosting and attending job fairs to fill those positions, Lynn confirmed. “Our biggest concern is culinary with over 100 people. With that type of number it can be difficult. A tight job market is always a concern.”

The Victoria casino is accepting applications for a multitude of job openings. They include bartenders, chefs and servers for the restaurant. The casino expansion will require table games dealers and surveillance operators for the gaming floor. Other available positions include human resources, finance and marketing departments.

He added that all employees will be privy to a competitive health and dental package, pension, and discounts at the property, as well as an optional employee share purchasing plan.

600-Seat Entertainment Venue and Maybe a Hotel

If construction stays on track, the second phase will see a 600-seat entertainment venue open in early 2018. But GCG isn’t sure if they’ll stop there. Lynn says the company is already looking into the possibility of adding a hotel to the complex.

“We are open to exploring all options when it comes to improving our amenity offerings for our guests,” said Lynn. “There is no current timeline on this but it is something we are currently assessing.”

Established in 2001, Elements Casino Victoria at View Royal has been an immense success for Great Canadian Gaming and the economy of British Columbia. In the 2015-16 fiscal year, it generated $71.8 million, distributing $4.1 million across seven municipalities. The current expansion is sure to stimulate additional economic growth for Victoria and its surrounding communities.
