After blasting its way into the New Jersey online poker scene last month, PokerStars NJ continues to steal the limelight from the markets’ former leaders. It barely took a week for the iGaming giant to sail to the top of the cash game traffic rankings, and has just announced the upcoming installment of the Garden State’s most lucrative online tournament series in history – the NJSCOOP.
A draft schedule of the New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker (NJSCOOP) was released last week, followed by a press release yesterday confirming the dates for the 54-event series. The tournament will kick off on May 15 and wrap up with the NJSCOOP Main Event on Sunday, May 29.
Much like the global version of SCOOP, all events will be played in dual formats of Low and High buy-ins/prize pools (I.e. 27 low stakes events and 27 high stakes events).
With a $10k leaderboard competition in the mix – as is traditional for all PokerStars SCOOP series – the total value of the NJSCOOP is $1.1 million GTD, making it the most lucrative online poker tournament series New Jersey’s regulated market has ever seen.
The highlight of the series will, of course, be the NJSCOOP Main Event High, calling for a $500 buy-in and guaranteeing a minimum of $200,000 in the prize pool. The Main Event Low is sure to attract a great deal of interest as well, posting $30k GTD and asking just $50 to enter.
The series’ overall purse isn’t the only unique aspect for New Jersey online poker fans. PokerStars NJ has infused a wider variety of poker games than any previous NJ tournament, tossing PLO, PLO H/L, Stud and 8-Game variants into the mix, alongside the standard NLHE, of course. According to the draft schedule, they’ve even structured Event #24 to be played in the operator’s famed Zoom (fast-forward) format.
Online Poker Pros Excited for NJSCOOP
“The global PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) is one of the must-play poker events of the year,” 2003 WSOP Champion and Team PokerStars Pro, Chris Moneymaker, was quoted in yesterday’s press release.
“It’s awesome that it’s coming to New Jersey so that players in the region can experience the exciting tournament structures and the thrill that comes with chasing a major tournament title and big prize money,” he continued. “I can’t wait to play in the first NJSCOOP and I plan to stream most of my play live on Twitch. I would love to win a title in its debut year.”
WSOP bracelet winner, Team PokerStars Pro and Twitch Poker phenom Jason Somerville was equally enthused, telling OPR, “It’s great to see PokerStars running a full-fledged SCOOP series for the fans here in New Jersey.
“Only on PokerStars can you find such a variety of tournament formats with huge prize money on the line along with buy-ins for players of all types,” he said. “I look forward to the day where more of my fellow Americans can compete for SCOOP gold!”
